Northam Footballer destined to be a Tiger 

18 year old Northam footballer Sydney Stack has been living in Melbourne since December, training with the Richmond Tigers and on 11 February, Stack was announced as an official Tiger. 

Mr Stack missed out being selected in last year’s National draft but despite the disappointment he showed his dedication by improving his fitness and holding his own during the Club’s training camp in Queensland, whilst living with Coach Damien Hardwick. 

Richmond Football Club’s general manager Neil Balme said Stack had earned his place in the team. 

“We’re delighted to welcome Sydney to the Club, he’s worked really hard to secure a spot on the list, and we know he’ll continue to work hard to develop his football,” Mr Balme said.

Sydney’s cousin, Bobby Hill, also from Northam was recruited to Greater Western Sydney (GWS) during the AFL’s national draft in 2018. Read more here…

Northam teenager helps secure World Championship spot in Floorball 

15 year old Mackenzie Sargeant of Northam recently spent two weeks in Singapore and Bangkok training and competing in the Women’s World Floorball qualification tournament. 

Miss Sargeant is a talented forward wearing Number 11. Getting plenty of game time, especially in the final she assisted the team to beat Thailand, the Philippines and New Zealand.  Australia then met Japan in the Grand Final eventually overcoming them 5-4 in overtime. 

The results are the best ever for the Australian team with their previous best performance being 12th in 2013 and 2015.  Being the Asia-Oceania qualification winner they have now secured their place in the 2019 Women’s World Floorball Championships in Switzerland in December. In the meantime, Miss Sargeant will maintain her fitness and aim for selection to again represent Australia.
