Nungarin’s Woolshed Hotel has been announced as the WA winner of Airbnb’s Country Pub Project, receiving $50,000 to be spent revitalising the almost century old establishment.

Publicans Laurie McKay and Carolyn Used moved from Perth to Nungarin over six years ago and now run the Woolshed Hotel, a vital business and social hub for the Nungarin community.

The entire community will benefit from the improvements as local tradespeople will be used to carry out the work and it is hoped that it will attract more visitors and tourists to Nungarin and the region. Other local attractions including the Heritage Machinery and Army Museum and the beautifully restored Mangowine Homestead are part of the popular self-drive Wheatbelt Way trail.

The Country Pub project aims to put small-town Australia back on the map, one pub at a time. The program received over 9000 nominations.  Due to the overwhelming response and moving stories, six winners were announced instead of the original five prizes allocated.  Meet the winners here…
