Wheatbelt Winner and Achievements

Tanya Dupagne from the Shire of Kulin’s Camp Kulin program has been announced as a winner in The Australian Financial Review and Westpac 100 Women of Influence Awards for 2014. Tanya has been recognised in the Local/Regional Community category for her contribution to children and youth through Camp Kulin and other programs she has run.  Tanya is the Founder of Camp Kulin and winner of the Constable Care Child Safety Award of the Year 2014 and WA Child Safety Employee of the year.

More Wheatbelt Achievements...

Val Firmin from Jurien Bay has been named a finalist in the WA Senior Awards.  Mrs Firmin has lead ‘Prime Movers’, a low-impact aerobics class in Jurien Bay for 18 years and for some time also ran a class in Dandaragan.  As one of three finalists in the Community Senior Award Category, Mrs Firmin will be in the running to win the overall 2014 Juniper Seniors Champion award.  Winners will be announced on 8 November 2014. Julie Alvaro from Merredin has won a Scholarship for the Company Director Course with Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). Mrs Alvaro is director of Windsor Hart Enterprises, is the eastern Wheatbelt member for the Partners in Grain group, a founding member of the Agricultural Women Wheatbelt East Group.

Anna-Lisa Newman from Lake Grace has also won a Scholarship for the Company Directors Course with AICD. Mrs Newman is the owner of The Bottlehouse specialising in hand made Olive Oil Soaps and skin care products.  Mrs Newman is also a past recipient of the WA Regional Achievements Awards, Country Housing Authority Primary Producer of the Year Award 2012.

Craig and Rita Herbert, Bindoon Fresh Meats -  Winner Australian Meat Industry Council WA Sausage King 2014, Gourmet Class.  After only three months of opening the Bindoon shop Mr Herbert has snagged the award for best gourmet style sausage in WA’s elite sausage competition.  The state award means that Mr Herbert will have a chance at the national Sausage King title in Adelaide next February.

Brother Frank Donohoe, from Catholic Agricultural College, Bindoon has won the Bronze Award for Olive Oil at the 2014 Perth Royal Show. Br Frank’s oil received a score of 75 out of a possible 100.  The Judges described his oil as having a ripe tomato aroma, medium banana flavours with mild bitterness and pungency.  The Oil is available for purchase from the College.
