The Wheatbelt Development Commission (WDC) and the City of Wanneroo formally endorsed their collaborative partnership on 28June, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The Minister for Regional Development, Hon Alannah MacTiernan MLC, attended the event at the City of Wanneroo office and signed the MOU endorsing the partnership.

The MOU was signed by Rebecca Tomkinson, Chair of the WDC Board; Tracey Roberts, Mayor of the City of Wanneroo; Gavin Robins, CEO of the WDC; and Daniel Simms, CEO of the City of Wanneroo. The MOU demonstrates the ongoing commitment by the WDC and the City of Wanneroo to continue to work together and it will facilitate administrative arrangements for future joint projects.

The WDC and the City of Wanneroo have been working together for over two years on projects and initiatives relating to transport, tourism, innovation and agriculture. As the Wheatbelt and the City of Wanneroo share a boundary and experience similar challenges and opportunities, particularly in peri-urban areas, this collaboration is vital in planning for the future.

This partnership includes the promotion of peri-urban transport corridors, agricultural innovation and tourism trails. The WDC and City of Wanneroo also collaborate with the Northern Growth Alliance (the Shires of Chittering, Dandaragan and Gingin), to maximise the investment opportunities for the area.
