Lancelin Ocean Classic
The 30th Annual Lancelin Ocean Classic wrapped up on Sunday the 18th of January. The main event, the Ledge Point to Lancelin race is the world’s longest open water windsurfing marathon. Australian sailor Steve Allen won the race for the third year in a row in a time of 28.17 minutes. Competitors also participated in wave sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing events throughout the weekend. Spectators and supporters gathered in Grace Darling Park on Saturday and Sunday evening to congratulate winners and acknowledge those who have contributed to the event in its 30 year history. Wangaree Community Centre Opening
An innovative new community centre aimed at improving the well-being of people with disabilities in the coastal areas of the Wheatbelt has recently been opened by Mr Shane Love MLA. The Wangaree Community Centre received more than $500,000 in funding from Royalties for Regions.
Wangaree Community Centre will be the new Disability in the Arts and Disadvantages in the Arts Australia (DADAA) premises, and will provide a wide-range of services to people with disabilities, ageing members of the community, people experiencing mental illness and other members of the community who require access to respite and community care.
