The Northern Growth Alliance recently met with Hon Alannah MacTiernan, Minister for Regional Development, Agriculture and Food; Minister Assisting the Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade, to discuss the enormous growth occurring in the Shires of Chittering, Gingin and Dandaragan.
This high growth area has a strong and diverse economy, access to a significant labour force from Perth’s northern suburbs and is a highly accessible location with existing social and economic infrastructure and natural amenity. Its industry value includes $370m in agriculture in 2015/16; $335m in mining and mineral sands in 2013/14; and $106m in fisheries including $105m for Western Rock Lobster in 2013/14.
With nearly $500m of direct private investment and $1.3b in public investment through the North Link Project currently occurring in the area, the Northern Growth Alliance was formed in 2015 to maximise opportunities across the sub-region.
The Northern Growth Alliance is a partnership between the Wheatbelt Development Commission and the Shires of Chittering, Gingin and Dandaragan, focused on enhancing industry investment and job creation through innovative partnerships.
Current Alliance projects include the development of a Northern Growth Jobs and Economic Outlook and a Tourism Strategy for the area. Recent engagement with the neighbouring Cities of Joondalup, Swan and Wanneroo, key agencies and private enterprise is delivering a shared vision and priority initiatives to drive growth.
