Local Content Advisor now available in the Wheatbelt

In July, Megan Creagh was appointed as the Local Content Adviser, as part of the Labor Government’s WA Plan for Jobs commitments, working alongside the Wheatbelt Development Commission.
The Local Content Advisor’s role includes working with government and business to:
- Increase regional businesses’ knowledge, skills and capability to capture regional opportunities.
- Increase the portion of State Government and Industry contracts secured by regional contractors and businesses.
- Provide regional perspectives to support decision making for the awarding of State Government contracts.
- Maximise regional supplier and subcontracting arrangements and outcomes through Industry Participation Plans.
- Engage with lead contractors and suppliers to promote maximum local jobseeker participation.
- Monitor the performance of contracts and report best practice and instances where Buy Local Policy or intent has been overlooked.
Megan has been busy in the first few months hosting the WA Industry Link information sessions in Northam and Narrogin to introduce the Western Australian Industry Participation Strategy, new legislationaimed at helping regional businesses to become more competitive as they apply for and win government tenders in the Wheatbelt.
Megan also attended the GWN7 Dowerin and Newdegate Machinery Field Days, speaking with local businesses about the drive to engage small and medium enterprises with State projects and how they can access opportunities.
Megan is currently working with various government agencies on large-scale tenders in the Wheatbelt region. Megan also provides information to local businesses regarding tender, training and funding opportunities, with the assistance of the Northam Chamber of Commerce, Wheatbelt Business Network and Narrogin Chamber of Commerce.
As Local Content Advisor, Megan provides local businesses with support and assistance in applying for Government tenders including advice on planning for expansion of the business so they are fully prepared for future opportunities.
Megan’s goal is to see more Wheatbelt businesses as the lead contractors or subcontractors/suppliers for all the work/supply opportunities in the Wheatbelt region and to increase business and employment opportunities for all Wheatbelt residents.
