The Creating Age Friendly Communities Small Value Grant Scheme aims to improve age friendly community infrastructure and services in the Wheatbelt through funding projects that will enhance the quality of life as people age.

To apply for the grants, a Creating Age Friendly Communities in Small Towns Audit is required. The tool is very easy to use and makes the application process stress free.

The Shires of Moora and Dalwallinu have been out and about conducting their audits and community consultations in order to submit applications to the fund.

The Shire of Moora hosted a community consultation for local senior residents to discuss ideas and experiences on the services and facilities within the townsite. Valuable input and answers received will be included in their Creating Age Friendly Communities Grant application.

Shire of Dalwallinu staff actively engaged the community to provide feedback on facilities, services and infrastructure for the Creating Age Friendly Communities in Small Towns Project. An overwhelming response was received from local businesses, community groups, medical service providers and individuals.

Chief Executive Officer, Peter Crispin said, “This initial consultation has resulted in some very good background information, but it is only the beginning. With Council now placing a greater emphasis on creating aged friendly infrastructure, the Shire is changing its focus to achieve greater improvements for both now and in the future.”

The Commission encourages all Wheatbelt Local Governments to undertake the audit, prioritise investments and submit applications. Funding will enable the important development of age friendly community infrastructure allowing aging in place for senior citizens.

Full criteria and eligibility requirements are listed on the Wheatbelt Development Commission website.
