On 5 August, Alinta Energy with investment partner Ratch Australia Corporation, welcomed local and state government representatives, community members and landowners to the ‘turning of the sod’ ceremony, to celebrate the start of construction of the Yandin Wind Farm near Dandaragan.

Ms Sylvia Mippy, Local Yued Elder, along with her daughter and granddaughter, conducted the Welcome to Country and spoke of their family connection to the area.

Upon completion, the $400 million Yandin Wind Farm is set to be the biggest wind farm in Western Australia. The construction phase of the Project will employ 150 people.

The Project will produce enough power for 200,000 homes from the 51 turbines spread across the properties of 8 landowners. The turbines will be some of the biggest in Australia at a height of 180m and will only occupy around 0.03% of the project site, which means farming and existing land uses can co-exist.

The Wind Farm will connect to Western Power’s 330 kV electricity network via a new 10 km transmission line and terminal station that will be built, owned and operated by Western Power.

During the event, Alinta Energy announced a $50,000 community fund for local projects that will provide 2 rounds of $25,000 per year. For more information on the community fund, visit  https://www.alintaenergy.com.au/wa/about-us/power-generation/yandin-wind-farm/about-the-community-fund

The Project is due for completion in September 2020. For more information, see https://www.alintaenergy.com.au/yandinwindfarm
