Local Member for Central Wheatbelt Hon Mia Davies MLA has presented a certificate of recognition to committee members.  Funding will go towards building the organisation’s new headquarters.

The Wongan-Ballidu and Districts Men’s Shed committee received funding of $20,000 from the Wheatbelt Community Chest Fund (CCF) grant.

Established in 2006, the Men’s Shed currently has 26 active members.  The Royalties for Regions funding will assist in building the organisation’s new headquarters on the corner of Calingiri and Depot roads.

“This funding will go towards a project to construct a new 24m x 9m shed, housing two workshops, a meeting room and a washroom/ablutions room,” Ms Davies said.

Wheatbelt Development Commission Chief Executive Officer, Wendy Newman also attended the presentation and congratulated the committee on securing CCF funds to assist in completing the project, which is estimated to cost between $140,000 and $160,000.

“Eventually the committee plans to harvest rainwater from the shed roof and incorporate solar energy to power the premises as well as feed back into the local grid” said Ms Davies.
